Allergen and Ingredient Disclosure
Edibles, topicals, and infused products contain ingredients beyond cannabis. Disclose proactively — never assume the customer read the label.
The proactive disclosure rule
Ask every customer buying edibles or topicals about food allergies before recommending a product. Gluten, dairy, soy, tree nuts, and coconut are the most common hidden ingredients in cannabis edibles and topicals.
Reading a cannabis product label
Every compliant product has a full ingredient list on the packaging. Practice reading them — know where the allergen callouts are located. When in doubt, read the label to the customer.
Cross-contamination warnings
Some kitchens produce both dairy and non-dairy gummies. If a customer has a serious allergy, point them toward products made in dedicated facilities — the COA often indicates this.
When to say no
If a customer with a severe allergy is asking about a product and you cannot confirm it is safe, say so. Refer them to the brand directly or recommend a different product category.
